The World Around Me: Afghanistan 2012-2013

Alcone Levier, of the US Army, took a camera with him on a whim to Afghanistan and recently posted an album to reddit. Some of them are beautiful. 

Bunkers

Anyone who knows me knows that I have a fascination of all things WW1/2, bunkers (and castles, but they're not really WW1/2) in particular. I lose myself completely when I'm in or around one, and sometimes, photos, such as these by Jonathan Andrews, are enough. 

I really wanted to call this post 'Bonkers About Bunkers' but I managed to resist. 

Holland Island

Holland Island was an island in Chesapeake Bay, Maryland. In 1910, it was a thriving fishing community made up of about 360 residents in 70 homes. It had its own post office, school with two teachers, a church, baseball team, community center, and a doctor. However, wind and water had their way, and in 2010, the last house collapsed.
